MEET BRANDON ALEXANDER

LIVE LIFE FUN.

Brandon Alexander is a visual artist based in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is known for his "in-progress" and playful style where the brushstrokes sit frozen in time before they fully cross the canvas.

Born on Long Island, New York, Brandon learned his passion for artwork before he spoke his first words. His childhood consisted of finger paintings, marker sketches, and anything that he could create from items around the house. On Brandon's seventh birthday, his parents gifted him a professional artist's tote bag equipped with oil pastels, paintbrushes, and acrylic paints. From that point on, Brandon understood his purpose in life—to be an artist. Attending the iSchool of Music and Art at ages seven and eight, he began studying the "greats" of painting and made several reiterations of works such as Van Gogh's Starry Night and Georgia O'Keefe's Red Hills with White Shell. Moving with his family to Raleigh at age nine, Brandon continued to teach himself the craftsmanship of fine art and painting. His subjects included anything that he could see with his eyes from landscapes to people to objects.

During the pandemic and suggested by his high school freshman year art teacher, Brandon began teaching himself how to oil paint. He quickly transformed his creative abilities into a business of selling his paintings first to friends and family and then to individuals of the Raleigh community. Thus, Brandon Alexander Art was officially born in July of 2020. Brandon Alexanders can be found in homes, restaurants, office buildings, and even individuals' shoes (canvas can't be the only surface!) across the country.

In 2022, Brandon began his education in architecture at the University of Tennessee Knoxville to expand his creative interests beyond the canvas. He designed community centers, educational facilities, furniture, and his favorite: art museums. Through these projects, he learned the necessity of intentional design and to always emphasize a point of storytelling and provide a fun, interactive space for the users. During his time at UT, Brandon worked on his architectural projects by day and continued his personal studies of painters and their work by night—sifting through websites, books, and museum archives. Brandon set out to create his own unique style that represented the way that he sees the world.

Every time Brandon sees a painting completed by another individual, he wonders what the work looked like throughout the artist's process. How did the work appear two hours into painting? With 500 brushstrokes on the canvas? Before anything touched the edges of the painting? Is it possible that the work could be captured in progress and frozen in time to permentantly show the layers that lie beneath, the individual brushstrokes that coalesce to form the image, and the artist's process? Brandon's art provides the viewer with a new perspective—one that is fun and allows the viewer to use their own imagination. The viewer becomes a part of Brandon's process. The viewer becomes a part of the story. Live life fun.

Brandon's work spans his lifetime of 22 years. See where the story started below.
